New Zealand’s new automated AEWV system was initially hailed as the ‘answer’ to long work visa processing timeframes.  A lack of proper scrutiny during visa applications, however, has resulted in migrant exploitation becoming a headline news story in recent months.  MBIE has also ramped up workplace investigations in the past 6 months – with 90% of employers investigated by the Labour Inspectorate being found to be non-compliant.  At the same time, the compliance obligations on employers (even when investigations aren’t involved) are significant with a new penalty regime for non-compliance coming in early 2024.

Rachael Mason and Julia Strickett, Immigration Specialists from Lane Neave will provide a comprehensive summary of the current state of play as well as what you can do to ensure you are compliant with New Zealand employment and immigration laws. The session will cover:

  • What the law says and how it will change in January 2024,
  • What we are seeing at the ‘coal-face’ – recent examples of non-compliance investigations,
  • Where to start when wondering whether you are compliant.

What participants will gain from the webinar: A strong understanding of an employer’s compliance obligations, typical areas of weakness within a workplace (where we see issues arising) and what can be done to prevent non-compliance.

There will be time for Q&A.
