In Work Success is an initiative Downer introduced to support employees in a holistic way to enable them to be more successful at work. New employees and their line managers are connected with an In Work Success Advisor to provide help and support around whole of life issues which may impact on their ability to maintain employment, such as literacy, finances, wellness and family/whānau challenges. This individualised programme helps to mitigate the challenges that many of our new employees face today as they enter the workforce. While this programme is facilitating excellent outcomes for individual employees, it is a real win for Downer as we compete for talent in a skills shortage market. Our retention rate for this sourcing channel has improved by over 15%. It also has a tangible flow on effect to whānau and communities.
Debbie is GM HR for Downer Transport Services and also leads the Downer Corporate Social Outcomes team. Coming from a social services background, she has been with Downer for 10 years and has a particular interest in diversity and inclusion.
