Southern Cross Health Society is NZ-owned and not-for-profit with over 850,000 members and accounting for 73% of NZ’s private health insurance claims. Stefan joined Southern Cross in 2014 and is their Chief Finance and Risk Officer – taking on the Finance, Investment, Analytics, Operational Risk, Compliance, Investigations and Commercial responsibilities. He is also the Society’s Privacy Officer.
Stefan has broad experience across multiple functions, industries and countries. Before joining Southern Cross, he was the Head of Business Unit Finance with Westpac here in NZ and had previously spent 8 years with American Express spanning a number of countries and roles as diverse as General Management of the ANZ Consumer Travel business to Regional Head of Amex’s Loyalty Programme and Business Transformation. Stefan believes the culture at Southern Cross is what sets it apart from other organisations that he has worked at. The long term focus on improving the health and wellbeing of all Kiwis and Society members in particular is a much easier vision to attach to and results in a better balancing of the interests of members, employees and owners.
Stefan loves to travel with his wife and two teenage children and when not travelling he will often be found engaging in physical activity or eating out with friends and family.
