Dr Angela Liew | Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, University of Auckland Business School

Dr. Angela Liew is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the University of Auckland Business School, where she has been teaching for over 20 years. Her expertise spans various topic areas, including accounting information systems, management accounting, new product development, qualitative research methods, and robotic process automation. With her unique blend of academic and professional experience in accounting and information technology, she delves into intriguing interdisciplinary topics, primarily focusing on the digital disruption and transformation affecting traditional business sectors in accounting, food, and seafood farming (finfish).

Currently, Angela leads a large-scale qualitative research study, The Future of Accounting Work, which explores the human impacts of automation and artificial intelligence in commercial and accounting firms. In her earlier work, Angela conducted an in-depth examination on the utilisation of information technology in enforcing management controls within new product development practices at a prominent salmon company as part of her PhD thesis in 2015.

Angela’s contributions extend beyond academia, as she frequently chairs accounting practitioner conferences and actively participates in or moderates panel discussions centred around the future of finance leaders, the future of accounting graduates and enhancing the employability of international students. Her dedication to teaching excellence has garnered recognition through multiple awards, including two Departmental Teaching Achievement Awards, two Business School Teaching Excellence Awards, and the prestigious University of Auckland Teaching Excellence Award.
